Professor Willowbrook (from "Skinwalker") and his teaching assistant Jeremiah are in the cave with Lionel's permission when Jeremiah finds a container and breaks it open to reveal a knife, the Starblade. It explodes in a burst of power, giving Jeremiah abilities similar to Clark's. Willowbrook goes to Clark, who he believes is the mythic Naman and the Starblade is for him. Clark starts looking for Jeremiah and runs across Lex on the same path, while Lionel meets with Willowbrook and offers help in return for the blade. Willowbrook and Clark track Jeremiah to a burial ground but he believes he himself is Naman and he must kill Lionel (Segeth) and escapes.
Lionel confronts Clark, believing the knife is made of the same metal as the key, and warns that he'll turn against the Professor if Clark doesn't help him. Clark gets a message to Jeremiah through Willowbrook to lure him to the barn and use kryptonite against him, but it doesn't work. He throws the kryptonite away and in the ensuing battle stabs Clark with the Starblade, then goes after Lionel. Jonathan administers pressure to the wound, which unleashes a light show that heals the wound, compliments of Jor-El.
Clark goes to rescue Lionel at the burial grounds, where he is being prepared as a sacrifice. The two fight at superspeed while Lex rescues Lionel, and Clark knocks the knife away, stripping Jeremiah of his powers and putting him in a coma. Lionel and Lex end up with the knife, but it dissolves at their touch.
Meanwhile Lana is accepted at the Paris art school but can't get a loan, and goes to Lex. He hires a real estate agent to sell the Talon against her wishes, and tells Lana he's been losing money but only kept involved to stay near her. Chloe and her dad make an offer but Lana turns them down and decides to sell the place. And Pete is growing increasingly upset with Chloe as his mother prepares to accept a district judge position out of town. Pete is dodging his parents, who are getting a divorce.

Papa Luthor's company discovers a Kiwatche artifact in the caves, so they call on Professor Willowbrook and his TA, one Jeremiah Holdsclaw, to identify it. Holdsclaw immediately realizes that it's a mythic knife that the Kiwatche believe belongs to their savior, Naman, so he absconds with it, and the knife gives him Naman's powers, which are strikingly similar to Clark's. This leads Holdsclaw to believe that he's Naman, and Clark tries to get the knife back before Holdsclaw kills someone. The other part of the prophecy is that if Naman's nemesis touches the knife, it will crumble, and the nemesis (I think it's spelled "Ziget"?) is supposed to be someone who started out good and then turned evil. Hmmm, sound like anyone we know? Holdsclaw kidnaps Papa Luthor, believing him to be Ziget, and prepares to perform a ritual sacrifice. Clark shows up and fights Holdsclaw, while Lex shows up to save his father, but of course doesn't see Clark there. Clark gets the knife away, and it falls near Lex and his father, who both make a grab for it, and the knife crumbles. At the end, Clark and Lex discuss the prophecy, and Lex points out that if Ziget is brave enough to fight someone as strong and powerful as Naman, maybe Ziget is the real hero. Meanwhile, Lana gets into school in Paris and decides to sell her share in the Talon in order to go. Yay! Lana's leaving! Also, Chloe discovers that Pete's parents are splitting up in a very Afterschool Special kind of way.

When a Kiwatche Indian steals a mythic knife from the caves, he is bestowed with superpowers similar to Clark's, causing the young man to believe he is the legendary Naman, "the man who fell from the stars." Clark learns the Kiwatche legend foretold of a knife that could kill Naman and sets out to reclaim it before the young Indian can use it on Lionel. Kristin Kreuk, Michael Rosenbaum, Allison Mack, Sam Jones III, Annette O'Toole and John Schneider also star.

Lionel: Find him and bring me that knife.
Chloe: Pete Ross passing up a chance to oogle Smallville's finest in spandex.
Pete: (on the phone) I don't want to talk about it!
Chloe: Note to self: forward all telemarketing calls to Pete.
Lex (to Lionel): I don't live in the past - someone told me it was weakness. Given your mishaps in the cave, maybe you should follow his advice.
Jeremiah (to Clark): Get out of my way, false prophet.
Clark (to Jonathan): I just want to be Clark Kent.
Lana (to Lex): I do not want it turned into a Kinko's
Lex (to Lana): I did it for you.
Clark (to Lionel): The friend who becomes the enemy... those caves may not belong to my family, but this barn does. So get out.
Chloe: What good are extracurriculars if you can't milk them for supplies?
Lex: I've been thinking about that prophecy. I've got a new interpretation. Want to hear it?
Clark: Yeah.
Lex: This Naman guy is supposed to come from the stars, have the power of ten men, and shoot fire from his eyes, right?
Clarkx: It's just an allegory, Lex.
Lex: I know. But if one person could do all that, he'd be a formidable enemy. He could conquer the world. He could become a tyrant if no one kept him in check. So I've been thinking...anybody who'd be willing to fight him would have to be pretty brave. Clark, did it ever occur to you that the hero of the story...is Ziget?
Lex: (to Clark) I'm surprised. Usually you keep such a close eye on everything that happens in the caves. For those term papers you're always writing.

In an episode directed by Pa Kent himself, more about the Kawatche prophecy is revealed as Clark really meets his match.
When Lionel asks Kawatche expert, Professor Willowbrook, to identify an artefact found in the cave, he brings Jeremiah Holdsclaw, the future leader of the Kawatche, with him. Jeremiah realizes it’s Palac, a knife meant for Naman that gives its bearer his powers temporarily, and grabs it, giving him super-strength, super-speed, heat vision and making him invulnerable. Lionel’s goons shoot at him, but the bullets bounce off and he speeds away. Willowbrook goes to see Clark, whom he thinks is Naman, and Clark helps him look for Jeremiah, running into both suspicious Luthors along the way. Clark and Willowbrook find Jeremiah and they try to persuade him to give up the blade, but he claims that he is Naman and that Clark is a false prophet and blows up a Jeep with his heat vision.
Meanwhile, Lana is accepted to the school in Paris but is turned down for financial aid, so she asks Lex to buy her out. But when she finds out he’s selling the place she gets upset…only to discover that the only reason he kept the Talon in the first place was for her. So she agrees to sell it and move on. And Chloe discovers Pete’s been sleeping at school and finds out the reason is because his parents are divorcing and his mom is moving away.
At Jonathan’s suggestion, Clark uses Kryptonite against Jeremiah, but it has no effect, and Jeremiah stabs him with the presumably Kryptonian knife. Jeremiah kidnaps Lionel because he believes the elder Luthor is Ziget, the Bearer of Darkness, whom the prophecy says is Naman’s greatest enemy, and in whose grip the Palac will crumble. After mysteriously being healed by Jonathan’s glowing hands, Clark finds Jeremiah about to kill Lionel with the knife and battles him in the woods as Lex shows up to save his dad. When they collide at super-speed, the blade flies out of Jeremiah’s hands and lands near Lionel and Lex and Jeremiah goes into a coma. Lex and Lionel both grab for the knife at the same time and it crumbles to dust at their touch. Back at the Kent farm, Jonathan and Martha hear Clark’s story and warn him that he needs to keep in mind that Lex could be the one who turns out to be his greatest enemy. Then Lex pays Clark a visit and says he has a new theory about the prophecy: that Naman would be so powerful that his greatest enemy would have to be very brave to keep him from becoming a tyrant, and that maybe Ziget was the hero of the story. Jeremiah has glasses in his "mild-mannered" identity until he gets superpowers, and then gets rid of them.
Where were the Sullivans going to get the money to buy the Talon?
Clark can't figure out if it's Lionel or Lex who is supposed to be Ziget, yet he should have noted that the blade was not glowing when Jeremiah was going to "sacrifice" Lionel, and it only started to glow after Lex arrived.
There were several phrases used in this episode that are synonymous with Superman Lore. Willowbrook tell's "Numan" that "your secret is safe with me." Jonathan tells Clark that he could be "Earth's Greatest Hero," one of Superman's titles, or that he could be it's "most mild-mannered citizen," a reference to Clark Kent's identification as a mild-mannered reporter.
